Like many military brats, Meghan Kennedy faced the challenges of moving, making new friends, and going to new schools, but an epilepsy diagnosis at age 18 changed her life: stripped of a driver’s license, denied her degree, dealing with the fears and stigma associated with epilepsy. In fact, once she was on a plane and woke up in an emergency room. She continuously makes transitions to continue living life positively despite the challenges of epilepsy. She doesn’t let it stop her from traveling or enjoying her other passion—ballroom dancing!
Instead of hiding things, she is proactive in educating the public. Realizing the need for epilepsy awareness in her community led her to start Epilepsy Education Everywhere. Although EEE’s primary focus is the Inland Empire, EEE’s reach is worldwide due to social media. EEE encourages advocates around the country to participate in the Purple Proclamation Project and Signs Up for Epilepsy bringing awareness to their community. Meghan has worked with people as far away as Thailand, India, Australia, and South Africa.
In 2015, she was the co-chair for the Inland Empire Disabilities Collaborative, completed Leadership Moreno Valley, and was a nominee for the NAWBO-IE Amazing Women Event Community Bridge Builder Award. Meghan was recently named 2016 Woman of the Year for the 5th District of the Riverside County Board of Supervisors.
